J-1 Summer Work/Travel

The J-1 Summer Work/Travel program provides foreign undergraduate students the opportunity to work and travel in the United States during their summer vacation for a period lasting up to four months.

                    

The Exchange Visitor Program

The program purpose is to increase mutual understanding between the people of the U.S. and the people of other countries by means of educational and cultural exchanges.

Employing International Students will provide your company with an exciting opportunity to experience and learn about different cultures.  Our student employees help encourage diversity and cultural understanding on multiple levels.  International employees also provide a level of interest to your business that can draw customers back time and time again!  The program has many benefits:

Employees at the Right Time – Work and Travel Students are eligible to work for any four month period between January and October, easily covering Seasonal and Peak load employment needs.

Flexible Employment Dates - Staggered arrival dates allow an employer to amp   staffing levels along with the increasing seasonal need. Different summer vacation dates, some lasting until mid October, mean an employer will be staffed even through Labor Day!

Diversity Initiatives - The introduction of international employees can also be a valuable supplement to ongoing work place diversity initiatives.

An Eager and Motivated Workforce - Program participants arrive eager to work and willing to participate in unskilled or service sector jobs. Students are enthusiastic to learn about U.S. culture and show strong desire to interact with Americans. this makes them a natural choice in high guest contact roles.

Returning Workers - Work and Travel program participants can return for a subsequent season as long as they still meet program requirements. This “repeatability” is another advantage for employers, as a returning worker can save the company substantial training dollars on future seasons.

The Next Step

  1. Fill out and return the Host Company Application.  The application will be reviewed, and you will be contacted. 
  2. Determine needs.  An Apex representative will talk with you to determine your employment needs.
  3. Make an Offer.  Potential employees will be given a job offer from your company.  Apex will work with you to make the best possible offer document.
